Spring Break...

I let Sam and David take my camera to Georgia this week (they are with the advanced jazz band in Savannah) so I have no pictures!! Rob and I are finding it a little strange having just Isaac and Luke at home. Our family seems very small. We will probably adjust just in time for Sam and David to come home.
Being Spring Break for the boys of course it has rained all week. I don't mean the soft little rain, I mean the torrential rain of a NW spring. So, we have been doing inside things. Monday we went shopping for fun things for lunch!! And hopefully a wienie roast! Tuesday we went to the dollar store and bought goodies and went to the movies at the cheap theater. We saw the Chipmunk movie and loved it like the first one. Today we got to go to the dentist. Yes we all three now have lovely shiny teeth!! Then we went to lunch with Dad.
Tomorrow we are going to the library and Burgerville for milkshakes. Then we are planning to have a fire and roast hotdogs and make s'mores. They say tomorrow will be the nice day!! Friday we hope to take the boys to see the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D. Saturday we will hunt eggs here at home and then head to the stake center where we will be watching conference with lunch out in between and then an Easter egg hunt at Grandma Julie's.
Sam and Dave will be home early Sunday morning (around 3:00 am) and then we will be back at conference with a picnic lunch in between. We have not decided where to do Easter dinner yet.
Then Monday it is back to getting up at 4:45 and getting kids off to seminary and catching various school buses. Back to soccer practice every night with games on Tuesdays and Fridays for Sam and David and Saturdays for Isaac. Back to mutual on Wednesdays and dance festival practices. And whatever else pops up!!

I love Spring Break and not really having to be anywhere at any given time!! Millie

Strawberry Jam

Is there any thing prettier than this? I do not think so!! Last summer I froze strawberries and now I am making strawberry jam. My house smells delicious and they look beautiful lined up on the old wood stove. I usually make jam sometime during the winter but this year I have been making it as we run out!! But I have decided to get it all made before it is time to get new strawberries. I don't even want to put them on the pantry shelf yet. I just want to bask in their beauty for a little while. Millie

Sam had a birthday?

Yes, yes he did! It was about 6 weeks ago, but he had one none the less and is now 18!!

Here he is with his cake!! (Just ignore the mess in the background!)

Okay enough already with the pictures!!

Sam is a Phineas and Ferb fanatic and here he is with his own boxes of Phineas and Ferb fruit snacks. (He did not share them with anyone!!)
Love ya Sam!!

I have actually finished an afghan!!

Around this time last year I decided I wanted to learn to knit again and knit an afghan. (This after reading the Friday Night Knitting Club and Knit Two). I purchased knitting needles and yarn. I made Hannah a scarf to practice and then knitted this my first afghan. I did not finish it first because I was not aware of how much yarn it takes to actually knit an afghan!! And when I went back to the store to buy more I could not find my yarn. I looked in every store in the area and on line. No luck. I wanted to make my mother in law one for Christmas so I bought another set of needles (because my afghan was on the first set) and more yarn and made her a pretty blue one that I do not have a picture of!! This time I bought too much yarn and when I returned the extra yarn I found one skein of my yarn. I was able to finish my first afghan!! And here it is on my couch!!

It has a few flaws but I love it!! I have actually finished four afghans to date!! Yes I am very proud of myself. And I am itching to get to a yarn store and buy some more yarn for my next afghan!! I have also completed four scarves!! I am a knitting fool. Millie

I do like the color yellow!!

In the kitchen.

On the table.

In the window.

On the built in buffet that came with the house.

On the shelf my mom and dad gave me for Christmas the year we owned the auction barn.

On the trunk Ike built and gave to me.

Something I found at a garage sale last weekend and had to have.

And on Isaac most of all!!

My Goal this Week....

So on my birthday I decided to make a 50 before 50 list (50 things I want to get done or do before I turn 50) and this week's goal is to learn to download pictures from my camera to our new computer all by myself. That way I do not have to wait for Rob to do it (and then not be able to find them) or for Hannah to be home from BYU-I to do them for me. Then I can blog all I want all by myself. I know it is a pretty lofty goal but I have confidence in me that I can learn this. Wish me luck!! Millie

What is it about penguins?

So, that is the question. What is it about penguins that just make you smile? Come on you can not look at a penguin and not have a happy feeling. I dare any one to share an unhappy penguin story. I do not think one exists. Even if you go to the zoo and you walk into the penguin house which is damp and kind of dark and smells awful, as soon as you see the penguins you are drawn to the glass and smile. You stand there watching them jump into the water and swim around. Even if they just stand on the rocks you watch them and think they are cute. You know you do, so just admit it already!! Penguins make you smile and feel good. Millie

I love this time of year!!

Okay, so it is a little early for the tulips but the daffodils are in bloom and the forsythia!! I love the color yellow. And everywhere I drive the trees are starting to bloom, pink and white. I believe spring is in the air!! Millie
