The writing on the wall.....and the floor!!

We finally got the library cleaned out (that's another blog I am sure) and ready to paint, and behind the door I found these wall drawings done in red crayon.

I only have one child who was my wall artist, Sam. He could not be trusted with a crayon on most surfaces but wall seemed to be his favorite. This was a work of art that had stayed hidden for at least 15 years!!

He also took the opportunity to sign the wood floor before we put the new carpet down. (I know you are asking why would we put carpet down on that floor. Why was it not sanded and buffed and brought to its natural beauty? Another story we will not go into at this time!) David, Isaac and Luke also signed the floor but I can not locate those pictures (dumb computer! or camera! it surely is not my fault!) But as you can see, Sam's was not the first signature (pan to the right upper corner).

When we pulled up the old carpet we found this! And a few other things written on the floor by Sam's dad!! The date is 12/23/75. It must run in the family and for once it is something from Rob's side!! Hey you don't see my name any where on the floor do you? Millie

Sam's Birthday....a little late I know!

Two weeks ago Sam had a birthday. We did celebrate it and here is proof! Sam wanted barbecued hamburgers and because he has a really great dad, who was willing to stand out in the cold rain and cook them, he got them!! It was like summer with burgers and dogs and potato salad and pasta salad.

Sam ready to open up his presents.

He is getting quite a tie collection. To the side you see his pink one and he is holding up his orange one!! He has informed me he still needs a green one like the one he got his dad!

What could be better than your own jar of super chunky peanut butter?

How about 2 jars!!! They were on sale and with the coupons they only cost .25 each!! He did wonder where his own jar of jam was!

Isaac and Luke enjoying the festivities!

Waiting for the arrival of the cake. The birthday person sits in the dark waiting for the cake and family to arrive singing Happy Birthday. (The family sings, not the cake!! It is just all lit up.)

Here comes the cake!!

What to wish for? That is always the dilemma.

Happy Birthday Sam!! We love you lots and are glad you are part of our family!! Millie

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.....Wait a minute....

We do not want snow!!! We keep getting these weather threats of snow to come. Last week it was just a brushing of snow and so far this week it has been the same. But tonight is the big test. They keep saying we could get up to 6 inches. I know, what all you Idaho, Utah and Wyoming people are saying "Seriously 6 inches?" But here it is serious. No one knows how to drive on the snow and ice and they will try!! Love it when you go down the road and the only cars in the ditch are the four wheel drives!!

So, even though it is pretty and makes everything look like a picture post card...we do not want any!! So, snow, snow, go away come again another day in another place!! Millie

A week later.....Happy Valentines Day!!

I found this felt at Joanne's and saw this cute idea on someone's blog and decided to do it.

It involved cutting felt and painting frames and sorting buttons.

And then I had to form heart shapes on the felt with the sorted buttons.

Came up with these!! I gave the two I liked best away but these were fun too!! Millie

A run in with a razor!

So, Rob and I were out on Saturday night (our date night consisted of dropping David and James at the dance and then going to Lowes to buy a shower curtain and rings and a toilet paper holder. Then to Walmart to pick up a few needed items!!) We get this call from Sam while waiting at the drive thru at Burgerville for our milkshakes. He says that Luke had a run in with a razor. As visions of blood and such ran thru my head he said it only involved his hair. Sam than sent us a picture of the damage. It was decided a haircut was in order!!
Luke before the incident with a razor (and yes it was my razor I keep in the shower!).

The area affected by the run in with the razor.

And Luke now!! Not to happy about it! But he says he can feel his hair growing in and believes that in two weeks it will be all grown back in! Good luck with that Luke! Millie

Family Reunion

We are planning a Julie Mecham-Frank Eisenhauer family reunion for this summer. The dates are August 10 thru 13. It will be in the Vancouver, Washington area. We would love to have all those related to Frank and Julie join us. We will also be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary (I know it already happened, but this is for extended friends and family) on the 13th of August. We are still in the beginning stages of planning but will gladly make room for all who can make it. And if you have family members who are not bloggers (unbelievable!) could you get this info to them! There is also reunion face book page! Thanks! Millie

My Bathroom

This was my cute bathroom. I loved this bathroom and I loved this tub.

But now it looks like this. We are doing a remodel and putting in a shower because Rob's mom is moving in with us after her hip surgery later this month.

Before, cute bathroom with cute tub. And yes the lid is always up!! There are 5 male persons living in this house and only one female at the time so, the lid is up. At least the seat is down!! Good boys!

And now!! This is where the big old ugly shower will go. Maybe I can find a cute shower curtain. Maybe one with an old tub on it! Oh well, people are more important than things. Millie

The Cape

We have been watching this new show The Cape (I know kind of corny, but we like it!) and Sam got invited to a birthday party where they were dressing as super heroes. He went as The Cape. This is the costume he designed. If you have seen the show you know he did a great job of copying the costume. I won't go into how many hours were spent at good will or doing the actual painting and such, but it looked great and now we have a cape costume for any future party or need to dress as an unknown super hero! When the lights are out....

So, we were without electricity one night this week for about 3 hours. At first it is kind of fun as we hunt down the flashlight and then the matches and candles. But it soon loses its glamour when mom won't let you walk around with a candle or take one upstairs. And since we only have one working flashlight she won't let you carry around that either. And then there is the fact that we have a well and when the electricity goes so does the water and that includes the toilet. Why do you always have to go to the bathroom as soon as mom says don't use the toilet we can't flush it? So, what do we do in the semi darkness?

Here are Luke and Sam sacked out on the couch. (It is amazing how much the flash lights up the room!)

And here is David on the floor. He claims he was not sleeping. Just listening to his music.

And Isaac reads by candle light. He would have made a better pioneer!! (Just ignore the craft mess I have going on the table! I hope to finish it up soon and get it put away!) We like it better when the lights (and water) are on! Millie
