FHE at the soccer game

Monday night for family night we all went to Sam's soccer game!! It was in Washougal, 56 minutes from the house according to map quest!! As you can see by our clothing (hats, coats and gloves) it was a bit chilly.
Isaac enjoying the game. And yes it was raining (notice the red and white umbrella in the background!!)
David and Luke letting mom take a picture. David is rarely seen without those white wires coming out his ears.
Sam is the one in black right next to the boy wearing #6. And yes that ball is headed for his head and he will head it back down the field. Sam averages about 5-6 headers a game and has had as many as 15!! And you thought soccer was played with you feet! Sam is currently playing right defender.
Here is Sam using his feet. The white spot in front of his foot is the ball. We won the game 4-0. We are now 2-1 in the pre-season which is saying alot because the varsity team has not won a game in at least 2 years. The one loss was to Camas a team that has taken state for at least the last 3 years. We were very proud of our loss of 0-1.
And these are the cupcakes we made for our FHE treat at the game. Battle Ground's colors are black and orange and we are the Tigers. (Interestingly enough Washougal's colors are also black and orange and they are the panthers!)
Luke carried them in so they got a little messed up. (And yes those are little black bats on the cupcakes, sprinkles left over from halloween.) All in all it was a fun FHE and we supported Sam who is now in Georgia with the Jazz Band. And yes I miss him. I hate it when my kids are gone and their room is empty. (Hannah's room is still Hannah's room and she has been at BYU-I for two years!) Millie

Muffins

Is there anything better on Sunday morning than homemade muffins? I think not!! And the men in my family agree!! These happen to be bran muffins, but we also like banana chocolate chip and blueberry.

The Pinewood Derby

Saturday was our Pinewood Derby. This is our 9th pinewood derby in a row!! This is Isaac's 3rd and final car. Here he is with part of the den cheering on their cars.
Here's Rob hanging with the other Dad's pretending not to be interested in the outcome!! The all look pretty relaxed and casual about the whole thing!!
Luke getting the best view as they come across the finish line.
This is "Oil Spill" coming across the finish line and breaking the track record!!
And this is Isaac with "Oil Spill" and their blue ribbon. We have finally (thanks to Chuck) produced a winning car!! Congrats to Rob and Isaac (and Chuck)!! We get a year off and then Luke will get to design the next 3 cars. You have to love Cub Scouts!! Millie

I am going to knit an afghan!!

Carol wants me to get her picture off as the first thing you see on our blog!! So, today I am blogging!! Rob bought a new camera today so hopefully we will have new pictures soon. So, what to write about? I have just finished rereading Friday Night Knitting Club and read its sequel Knit Two. (A word of warning they do swear a lot in both books). And I have decided I am going to knit an afghan. I was taught to knit by my Grandmother and actually completed a purse. As a young adult I knitted a scarf for a boyfriend. (Rob wants to know why he never got a scarf. I say because he got me instead!!) So now I am going to try again. I am excited to give it a go. I think my grandmother would be proud of me and I hope I can finish it with out her (she did actually finish the purse for me). If this goes well I may take up knitting slippers. You remember the ones we use to get from grandma every Christmas and loved, with the little pom poms on them. I can hardly wait. So, I am going to buy some knitting needles and some yarn. I will let you know how I progress. Maybe I will become part of a knitting club!!

Just like the knitting club in the book, I go to my monthly craft club. (Pictures on Carol's blog). This is a great day!! We get to talk and eat and paint. We have a great group of ladies and the numbers always fluctuate. But I always feel good after the day spent with these special friends. We just need to keep coming up with fun ideas to craft. Several ideas have come from Maudie's house when we (Carol and I stop) in on our way to education week. So if you have something fun and want to share, let me know!! Millie

My Friend Carol

Today is my friend Carol Brown's birthday!! Happy Birthday Carol!! Carol does not let people take her picture. As you can see on her blog, you see all of her family but not Carol. And her profile picture is some ugly eel thing from the Oregon Coast Aquarium!! So I did a search through my pictures and found these!! Every year we have a Halloween party and we take pictures!! And there is one of us in front of the Salt Lake City temple last summer when we took our husbands to education week!! Surprise Carol!!

Carol is a very good friend. She is funny and puts up with me even when I am being caustic!! She is actually my caustic controller and lets me know if I have become so!! We are co-creators of our craft cult held at her house every 2nd Monday and we have book club together at my house every 3rd Friday. If I need someone to help serve at a funeral and just be in charge of the kitchen she shows up with her apron and just does it. She listens when I am tearing out my hair whether it is about my calling or my family or whatever. And she goes to GoodWill with me and digs in the bins!! And we have a great time garage selling (not selling garages, but shopping at them!). I have been Carol's visiting teacher I think since she moved into the ward. She won't let them change us!! I love that about her.

So Happy Birthday Carol and thanks for being my good friend and sister in the gospel!! Millie

PS I do realize that you have some choice pictures of me from camp and I am showing my trust in you that I will not find them on your blog. I believe posting them on Meaghan' s facebook was more than the internet needed!! Millie

A sob story

What is it with Hallmark movies? It does not seem to matter how corny they are or unbelievable, they always get you crying in the end. Tonight I watched The House with Luke while Rob and Isaac were at a Blazer game and David was at Mutual. Sam was supposedly doing chemistry homework, but I think he was secretly watching the movie also. So, I am fine up until the last 10 minutes when the main character Ruth collapses during the court case and is taken to the hospital. Her daughter and son are told the cancer has spread to far and she only has a month to live. Of course her daughter saves the day and wins the case and promises to continue to take care all the homeless people and Billie writes a book about Their House and Ruth dies. Of course I am a mess!! Poor Sam and Luke!! Of course that is when Hannah chooses to call home and I am crying. Oh well. I doubt it will stop me from watching them!! I do recommend this one!! Millie

Readingaholics

Hi, I'm Millie and I am a readingaholic. Yes I admit it. I love to read and I read way to much. I have read at least 10 books since the beginning of the year. And that does not include books read to Luke!! I read books when I should cleaning house or sleeping. I started a book club so I would have a reason to read one book a month. I read books my boys want to read or are reading so I know what they are reading and so we can talk about them (my excuse to read fantasy)!! I read books Rob brings home from work that people there reccommended. I can't go to Costco with out lingering through the books. And don't let me in Barnes and Noble!! The only site on the computer that I am comfortable with is the Fort Vancouver Regional Library!! I currently have 5 books on hold that I am waiting for.
So, when I read on Justin's blog that he was reading "The Road" by Corman McCarthy, and Christine spoke so highly of it, I thought that is a book I need to read. I went to the library site and two days later I had it in my hand. I had to finish the book I was reading that Rob wanted to read and my book club book, but then yesterday I started "The Road". Today I finished the same book. Why would any one enjoy this book!! I will admit I am a sucker for a happy ending. I was so depressed by the time I finished it. And what kind of ending was that? Any way I had to read alittle book I picked up at Goodwill "The End of the Beginning" by AVI to get over my sadness!! Any other suggestions Justin? Millie
